A beautiful Spring morning with a promise of a game of Topgolf set tone for our breakfast forum event, sponsored by Topgolf Events, on Thursday 14th April 2016. The venue, Topgolf Events at Addlestone.
A very popular subject for this breakfast forum, with delegates asking questions about personal cyber safety as well as commercial.
Our brilliant expert advice came from two speakers both from within our Borough, The first speaker was Dr Nigel Rata, Assistant Director of Core Service Delivery, Royal Holloway University of London. Nigel has worked within the IT department there for over 15 years. He heads up teams that are responsible for the delivery of user support and technical services to the college such as systems and networks and voice communications. He is also responsible for information and cyber security. Royal Holloway is one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities, with 21
academic departments and schools.
Peter Connolly was the second speaker; he is Director of Consultancy Services for ThinkingSafe, who provide cyber security solutions for a broad range of clients. Peter specialises in Holistic Security.
Peter had people checking there smart phones and answered a flurry of questions about online Phishing, the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money), often for malicious reasons, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication and general online personal safety.
A lively Q&A session followed the speeches and presentation.
